There is nothing enjoyable about a fever, but you should be relieved to know your immune system is normal if you get fevers when you are sick. A fever is not a symptom of any particular disease or illness. A fever is your body’s way of trying to make your body’s environment more suitable for disease fighting while blood cells and other enzymes, which function more efficiently at warmer temperatures.

This is why we bundle up in the winter when we go outside; cold temperatures are immune system depressants, leaving our defenses down, as it were. Symptoms of a fever include sweating, dry mouth, aching muscles, fatigue, headache, sleepiness, and the chills. Severe fevers will sometimes result in delusion, slurred speech, and utmost dizziness. If you or a loved one are suffering from a grave fever and start to experience these symptoms, you should seek medical attention at once. Who knows whether there is something worse happening to you, or if this temperature will abate. In this article about getting rid of a fever, we’ll presume that we are working with a normal grownup or kid who is having a temperature anywhere between 100 and 103.9 degrees.
The leaves of holy basil are one of the most effective of a few home remedies in the treatment of common fever. A decoction made of about twelve grams of these leaves, boiled in half a litre of water, should be administered twice daily with half a cup of milk, one teaspoon of sugar and a quarter teaspoon of powdered cardamom (chhoti elaichi). This will bring down the temperature.
Due to the increased water loss through the skin in the presence of a fever, an adequate intake of fluids is essential. Diluted juices; juicy fruits such as citrus and melons; water; clear soups; and healthful gelatin desserts are all good sources of fluids.
Put an ice pack on your forehead. This also cools you down temporarily. Or, soak a washcloth in a bowl of cool water. Then bring it out and place it on your forehead. This will help your body to lower it's temperature, thus reducing the fever quicker.
Be sure not to wrap the person with a fever in blankets or warm clothes. Although they may feel cold, added layers will only prevent the body temperature from dropping like it should. Dress the person in one layer of comfortable clothes, provided the environmental temperature is comfortable.
Generally, adults should go to a doctor for a fever if your temperature goes above 103 degrees F and will not come down with medication or stays that high for more than 24 hours.
If a kid over 6 months old has a temperature over 101 degrees F that lasts for three days, you should call the pediatrician.
A kid between 3 and 6 months old that has a temperature over 101 degrees F should be taken to the doctor.
A kid under 3 months old with a temperature over 100.4 degrees F should be taken to the doctor.
