Major ant species:
Fire ants: Fire ants should be treated with granules. The worker ants will take the granules back to the queen and when the queen dies, the mound dies. Fire ants can kill small animals by stinging them with a toxic venom. Humans are rarely killed by fire ants.
Carpenter ants: Carpenter ants are very difficult to kill or exclude in some areas of the country. Carpenter ants often require professional treatment and because of their destructive effect on structures, they should be controlled when discovered. Ants may also occasionally produce a “winged” form which is sometimes confused with termites, a much more serious pest.
Pavement ants: As know as sugar ants, pavement ants are the little brown ants that make small mounds in the sand near sidewalks, driveways, and the sides of houses. Pavements are in the 2 node catagory which means that there are 2 nodes or small lumps between abdomen and the thorax.
Getting rid of ants remedies:
Bait is a small process, but it also has a great positive. So if you know where the nest is, best idea is to bait around the mound (not on top) with the granular bait (and it is best if you DO NOT KICK OR RUPTURE THE MOUND, this excites the mound and activates the soldiers. Bait them to keep them from coming back! Make sure to look outside the home to find out where they are coming in and bait those areas too. Baiting for ants, gets the ants to work for you. Just put the right bait in the correct place and the ants take it home and kill their queens, and their buddies too. Remember to remove the bait after the ants disappear.
Boric acid bait can be used as a last resort. This bait can destroy an entire ant colony. Boric acid (Borax) is the most common ingredient in house ant control products, and it's abolutely 100% natural.
